How do I renew ebooks and audiobooks from Libby?

Libby eBooks, audiobooks and video can be renewed three days before a title is set to expire. If the title is on hold for someone else, you will not be able to renew it and the title will be returned automatically.  At that point, you can request the title again.

How much does it cost to print/copy?

Copier and Printer fees are as follows:

Black and White:

  • 0.10 (ten cents) letter size 8 ½  x 11
  • 0.10 (ten cents) legal size 8 ½ x 14
  • 0.20 (twenty cents) ledger size 11 x 17

Color:

  • 0.50 (fifty cents) letter size 8 ½  x 11
  • 0.50 (fifty cents) legal size 8 ½ x 14
  • 1.00 (one dollar) ledger size 11 x 17

How do I get a Library card?

To Obtain membership at the library:

NEW RESIDENTS  of the community must provide one (1) item listed below AND a valid photo ID. The library card will be issued the same day.

FAMILY MEMBERS OF EXISTING PATRONS (in good standing)living in the same household, can apply for a library card by producing one form of identification. Teens in grades 7-12 must produce school ID or Guidance Office transcript.  Parents must sign and be present for dependent children under the age of twelve.  Children from birth to grade 6 must be accompanied by an adult.

ITEMS FROM THE FOLLOWING LIST WILL BE ACCEPTED AS PROOF OF RESIDENCY

Items must have a name and street address (not post office box):

  • TAX BILL DEED
  • LEASE OR LETTER FROM LANDLORD
  • PAY STUB OR LETTER FROM EMPLOYER
  • UTILITY BILL
  • CREDIT CARD BILL
  • BANK STATEMENT OR CHECK
  • LICENSE OR VEHICLE REGISTRATION
  • ANY OTHER LEGAL DOCUMENT WITH STREET ADDRESS  

 

You can apply for a temporary library card online which will only be valid for 30 days.  You must come in to the library before the 30 days expires, presenting proper identification and proof of address, to receive your physical library card. Your temporary card will no longer be valid after the 30 days.

How do I access my Library Account?

Click on "My Account" on the homepage of the Library website and enter your library barcode or username and PIN/password.


From your account, you can:

  • Renew books
  • Pay fines
  • Manage holds
  • Turn on your reading history
  • Update your contact information
  • Opt-in to receive text message notifications

I forgot my PIN/password. How can I reset it?

Library cardholders can reset their PIN/password through the Forgot My Password link on the Library Account Login page. You will be asked to enter your library card number to receive an email with instructions to reset your password.  If you do not have an email in your library record, you will not be able to reset your password from home.  We are unable to change passwords or library records over the phone for security and privacy reasons.  You must come in person with proper identification for us to be able to edit or change your record and/or password.  If you need assistance or have any questions, please contact us.

Digital downloads for eBooks and audiobooks are available via Libby and Live-brary. Links to these can be found on the Library’s homepage. On mobile devices download the free Libby app first.

How many eBooks and/or audiobooks can I check out from Libby?

Library cardholders can borrow up to 7 digital items and have 5 holds at any one time from Libby. These do not count against the physical library books and items.  We do strongly encourage patrons to return titles early if they have finished reading them prior to the end of the loan period so that the next person waiting can receive the item.

How do I reserve the Reference study room?

Can I print from my laptop via WiFi?

The library only offers wireless printing from cell phones. However, you can email your print job to ref@hamptonbayslibrary.org and we will print it for you. You can also logon to a Library desktop computer and print from there.

Does the library have WiFi?

Yes!  You can also access or WiFi from the library parking lot.  To to your network settings and select “Hampton Bays Library.” No password is required.

Can I scan documents to email?

Yes, we have two scanners that allow you to scan documents and images to email or you have the option to save them to a USB flash drive.  Both scanners have the option to feed multiple pages or to individually scan on the flatbed device.  One scanner allows for the scanning of double-sided documents.  There is no fee for this service.  We do not provide flash drives but you may purchase one from our Circulation desk for $2.00.

How do I renew items that are checked out on my account?

As long as there are no other patrons requesting the item/s you have checked out, they will automatically be renewed for a maximum of 6 renewals.  At that point the item must be returned and you may check it out again if it's available or place a hold, if needed.

Does the library provide notary public services?

Yes, we offer notary services.  The fee is $2.00.  Walk-ins are welcome.  However, we strongly encourage calling ahead to ensure that a staff member is available.  For any inquiries or to schedule a notary appointment, please call (631) 728-6241 (Option 3).

Does the library offer faxing services?

Yes.  You can fax documents.  We suggest only faxing a maximum of 10 pages at a time.  Faxing service is free.
